“Billy Martin: Recent Works (2005/2006)”

“Billy Martin: “Recent Works (2005/2006)” is comprised of two very distinct worlds. The first is one in which Martin’s love affair with symbols and symbolism is the primary focus. Heavily influenced by traditional Haitian veves (symbolic designs representing voodoo spirits), these intricate line drawings are mazes of numbers, letters, lines, and shapes that exhibit magical lives of their own.

The other group of drawings (plus a few collages) in this series consists of works done in what has become Martin’s signature style. This is a world submerged in color, nature, and playfulness that only a free-spirited improviser like Martin could sincerely pull off.

Though best known for his work as a musician, Martin is equally passionate about his work as a visual artist. And it shows.
