Stridulations for the Good Luck Feast is a suite of percussion compositions that could be considered a collaborative game, played not by opponents to win or lose, but by a team of individuals whose primary challenge is collective improvisation. The object of Stridulations is the formation of a self-governing ensemble acting as one 'organism' that produces unique arrangements each performance. Contains 13 mini scores in a deluxe folder pack designed for percussion ensembles, schools, workshops, including music therapy.

Billy Martin, aka illy B, is a remarkable drummer, visual artist, and label owner who has successfully carved out his own musical path. As the organic beat-maker for Medeski, Martin & Wood, Martin has successfully blended world-music cultures in to his own unique style. The claves in this book open up rhythmic subdivisions, substitutions, and a much wider vocabulary to draw upon than just playing static beats. Call them systems, bell patterns, or claves, but be assured that there is much freedom to be gained from owning these riddims. |

From the ears, eyes, and hands of renowned percussionist and educator Billy Martin (Medeski Martin & Wood), Life on Drums is a striking examination of the drummer's art, captivatingly rendered with cinematic grace and intrigue. As relevant to experienced musicians as it is to newcomers, Life on Drums combines candid, wide-ranging conversations with Martin's first drum teacher Allen Herman and beautifully filmed performances of Martin's compositions for percussion ensemble and improvised trap set solos and duets. The film's distinct elements work together to impart a refreshing approach to instruction that prizes the creative and the intuitive over the merely technical. The resulting film — fiery and passionate yet practical and insightful — is a riveting extension of Martin's open-ended approach to percussion, improvisation, and music. |
